Increase in Botox Sales May be an Indication of Economic Faith
(Phoenix, AZ) – In fourth quarter 2009 Derma Health Institute saw a significant increase in injectables like Botox and Dysport as well as facial fillers like Juvederm and Perlane. A recent survey conducted by MEDACorp uncovered similar results, reporting these procedures had increased nationwide for the first time since the economic downturn began in 2007. Findings like this may indicate consumers are beginning to feel a sense of economic optimism.
“Last year our Botox and Dysport business increased by 115% and our Juvederm and Perlane business increased 89%,” said Trish Gulbranson, Derma Health Institute owner. “This is a positive sign that patients feel like the market is starting to turn around.”
In this economic climate companies like Allergan, the maker of Botox, have also increased their customer service programs. They recently started a promotion called Brilliant Distinctions, which encourages customers to sign up for an email list and get up to $50 in credit towards their first Botox visit at Derma Health Institute. Patients then receive emails every 4-6 months reminding them to make their next Botox appointment. According to Gulbranson customers absolutely love this VIP service.
“The nice thing about Botox and Juvederm is that they’re a quick fix, minimally invasive and provide instant results. We’ve seen a decrease in the cost of both these products in the last few years. An average woman can get Botox for about $250 and get rid of that ‘angry line’ between their eyes. Juvederm treatments have also decreased in cost to from $600 a syringe to $399. With these, patients come out looking years younger, rejuvenated and relaxed.”
Derma Health Institute has earned the highest certification level awarded by Allergan, Black Diamond. As one of the largest providers of Botox and Juvederm in the nation, they have an immense amount of experience and results with these procedures.

How Do Retin-A and Vitamin A Skin Creams Work?
Retin A was created for the treatment of acne more than 25 years ago. It comes from Vitamin A molecule slightly altered. Vitamin A works to treat acne by working as an exfolliant that “removes a plug from a pore, hair follicle, or sweat gland.” In more recent studies the use of Vitamin A has been found to be helpful in treating fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, uneven skin tone and even inhibiting cancer growths on the skins surface. Vitamin A increases dermal collagen production and stimulates the growth of new blood vessels. That means it thickens the layer of skin under the surface that we cannot see, giving a very pleasant glow to the skin that we do see.
How Do Retin A and Vitamin A Creams Work?
After repeatedly using a form of vitamin A, the outermost skin buildup of shedding dead skin cells thins. When this happens, the epidermis (the underneath layer we don’t see) is stimulated to reproduce new collagen fibers and new skin cells much quicker. As we age our bodies slow down the reproduction of these fibers and cells, that is what causes the skin to get dull and lax over time. The reproduction of collagen fibers is what gives the skin that full, supple, healthy glow. In order to continue to reap the outstanding benefits of any vitamin A cream, one must continue the use of it.
How Vitamin A Could Help You
Acne: Vitamin A unplugs the pores, sweat glands or hair follicles that get clogged with bacteria, causing blackheads. With a healthy skin care regimen and the use of a topical vitamin A, the top layer of the “plug” is constantly being shed, eventually clearing the blackhead and leaving a clean surface.
Hyperpigmentation: The surface of the hyperpigmented skin (freckles and age spots) is constantly being sloughed away forcing the body to regenerate new undamaged skin cells that will replace the damaged discolored ones.
Poor Skin Texture: The constant and increased exfoliation process from vitamin A removes the uneven dead skin cells and stimulates new skin cell and collagen fiber growth which in turn improves the overall texture of the skin.
Preparation for Other Procedures: Vitamin A is commonly used to prepare the skin for different laser procedures, such as Laser Resurfacing or Photo Rejuvenation Therapy. When the thick dead skin is not built up on the surface, the benefits from these facial laser treatments will be more visible.
Vitamin A comes in many different forms, and it is recommended that you discuss with a skin care professional which form is the best fit for your skin. Vitamin A in any form used too much can cause irritation, redness, burning, peeling and increased sunburn potential. Retinol is vitamin A cream that when used properly can be least irritating to the skin.
Here at Derma Health Institute we carry many different physician grade retinol products, ranging from a 2% retinol facial scrub to a 4% retinol cream. These products are excellent in assisting with the elimination of blackheads, active acne pustules, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and helping you get back that young youthful glow.

Laser Hair Removal Costs Less Than Shaving or Electrolysis
A research study conducted by Celibre Medical Corporation, designed to evaluate women's beliefs and preferences on personal grooming, and more specifically, the methods of dealing with unwanted body hair removal, revealed that women's general understanding about the cost of personal care might be flawed.
Torrance, CA (PRWEB) January 20, 2010 -- A research study was recently conducted in Los Angeles and Orange County by Celibre Medical Corporation, designed to evaluate women's beliefs and preferences on personal grooming, and more specifically, the methods of dealing with unwanted body hair. The outcome revealed that women's general understanding about the cost of personal care might be flawed.
Preferred Method for Dealing with Unwanted Body Hair
While the vast majority of responders have identified "laser treatment" as the preferred choice for dealing with unwanted body hair, only the smallest proportion of participants have identified it as the "go-to" method for dealing with their personal grooming needs.
68% of the participants in the study preferred laser hair removal for themselves as a means of dealing with unwanted hair. The other choices included shaving (24%), waxing (6%), and electrolysis (2%). An option was also provided for individuals who do not engage in any method of personal grooming, but that option was not selected by any participants of the study.
The apparent reason for this disparity between personal preference and action taken is likely due to the fact that the respondents consider laser hair removal to be too costly. A question was asked which required the survey takers to rank each method of hair removal, according to perceived cost. The results were surprising, as the majority of responders identified laser hair removal as being the most expensive (52%), followed by Electrolysis (31%), and waxing (13%). Only 4% of respondents correctly attributed the highest cost to regular shaving.
The fact is that laser hair removal is the least expensive and most effective long term treatment for unwanted body hair. Upon completing a course of treatment, an individual is forever rid of unwanted hair on the targeted area of the body. Moreover, with the ongoing advancement of laser technology in the field of medical sciences, the production of highly effective (and FDA approved) lasers, capable of permanently eliminating different kinds of hair on a variety of skin types is at an all time high, as is customer satisfaction that is subsequent to laser hair removal treatment.
97% of the responders who have admitted to having laser hair removal performed in the past were satisfied with the results. This is significantly higher than consumer satisfaction with electrolysis (70%) or waxing (55%).
When comparing the cost of laser treatments to the expense associated with electrolysis, the figures are generally comparable. Both methods require multiple treatments to complete the course, however, lasers tend to be more flexible relative to various skin types, they cause slightly less discomfort during treatment, and the effects are permanent.
The cost of waxing and shaving treatments over several years is comparable to the cost of a laser therapy treatment course. However, because waxing must be repeated indefinitely, the cost benefits of laser hair removal quickly become self-evident. In addition to the necessity of ongoing treatment, the high degree of discomfort associated with the treatment makes this a less popular option.
Shaving is still the most common method of dealing with unwanted hair. In fact, 100% of the participants in the study have admitted to shaving on a regular basis. Nonetheless, the cost of renewing razor blades, creams, and other shaving accessories over several years is close to the fees associated with laser treatments. Because shaving offers the most short-lived relief from unwanted hair, it is easy to see that over time, this is (contrary to popular belief) the most costly means of dealing with unwanted body hair. Finally, few people think of the added cost of time that is required for shaving. And for those of us with especially sensitive skin, subsequent irritation that follows shaving can be a major nuisance.

Popular hCG Diet Safe Only When Medically Supervised
(Phoenix, AZ) – The hCG Ultimate Fat Burning Diet has received significant publicity based on impressive weight-loss results. However, this diet is extremely sensitive and must be monitored by a medical professional to assure desired results are achieved.
“Many unqualified businesses and on-line companies have recently advertised their version of the hCG diet,” said Dr. Ann Watwood, Medical Director at Derma Health Institute of Ahwatukee. “It’s important for consumers to realize this is a specialized program that requires the close supervision of a doctor. At Derma Health Institute, patients are seen weekly to ensure they’re achieving a positive outcome without medical complications.”
The Ultimate Fat Burning Diet involves the hormone hCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, to assist in weight loss. This natural hormone is found in both men and women and increases significantly during the early stages of pregnancy. Clinically, it has been shown that using this hormone in combination with a very specific low calorie diet will stimulate the body to mobilize and burn extra fat cells for energy.
When administered properly, patients can see a weight loss average of 10-25 pounds over the three week hCG program. When used incorrectly, consumers reported feeling faint and weak, dizziness, extreme hunger attributed to improper hormone administration and no weight loss at all.
“This type of extreme diet can be dangerous if a patient is not correctly monitored,” Watwood added. “At Derma Health Institute, blood samples are taken before the diet begins to confirm there are no underlying health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism or issues with kidneys or liver that could adversely affect the patients overall health. Patients are then monitored by physicians in weekly meeting to ensure that there are no complications that could affect their health or success on the diet."
Consumers need to remember it’s illegal to purchase any drug without a prescription from a licensed practitioner and medications sold in other countries are not held to the same safety standards of those sold in the United States. Therefore, there is nothing in place to confirm a substance ordered on-line is really hCG.
For more information on the hCG diet contact Derma Health Institute at (480) 539-0777 Mesa/Gilbert, (480) 730-9000 Chandler/Tempe, (480) 460-1505 Ahwatukee/Phoenix or (480) 991-7900 Paradise Valley/Scottsdale.
